Recently, there was an article in New York Times --- Hearing Bilingual: How Babies Sort Out Language (October 10, 2011), which very well describes how bilngualism develops and benefits young mind.

We follow OPOL (One Parent, One Language) method. We have a different approach than most parents. We enforced English first as we wanted our son to interact with others around him. Now we enforce our native languages and it comes naturally to him at 2 years.
